Heres my newest design for a Triops tank filter. With an airstone down the pipe it should create a slow enough suction so that no animals will get stuck to the sponge.

Parts cost is $4 minus the pump/tube/airstone.

hmm, i guess what i was really wondering was how small could it be, and i've been on this site for two moths i think, and you and i are the only two people that have been active, is the site normally this quiet?

it comes and goes, although if you want a lot of chatter the yahoo groups will provide it. I try to answer posts whenever I see them.

If you are using an airstone, the pipe needs to be large enough for the airstone to fit inside. You could just shove the airline in and use whatever size pipe you want. Having more elbows and turns should reduce the flow. Personally Ive never used a filter with triops, but then I dont object to muddy water.

I did run this in a tank with crayfish which had some dirt inside and after a few days it did clear up.
